Lighting Trends for 2014

Repurposed metals, rich textures, reclaimed wood, and aged iron, brick, stone are at the forefront of the “industrial chic” design trend that is so popular in 2014. Recent years have seen old warehouses, industrial buildings, and barns renovated and turned into new spaces for the modern world. Bringing back the industrial age in design is on trend now, and you can easily incorporate this into your home, starting with your lighting options.

Much of the inspiration for light fixtures now comes from factory lighting from the 1930’s, with period-inspired lighting. Carbon filament bulbs, named “Edison bulbs” are emerging in many designs. The bulbs are either hung without a shade, or an industrial-like metal shade or wire guard. Some homeowners are even combining mason jars with Edison bulbs to create unique, one-of-a-kind light fixtures. Other industrial lighting trends emerging are pulley-style lamps and accordion lighting sconces. These light fixtures reveal their mechanical workings, with a steampunk feel. These fixtures can be used as chic floor lamps in your living room, billiard lights over a pool table, or even unique dining table lighting!

Does this lighting trend work into your style for your home, or do you stay away from the industrial-look in your home? We love the new lighting options that are coming out as a result of this trend and can’t wait to incorporate some of this look in our designs!
